my phone is brand new from insurance company so need sim card to activate it
connecting computer itunes neither helps

Have you tried a new nano sim from your carrier if so
Take it to an Apple store genius if the will check it out for you
BUT beware some Insurance COc use 3rd partyRepairers which invalidates the warranty but also any post warranty support or service from Apple
worth a trip to establish the reality
