Q: Suddenly Invalid display. Thousands of them.

This week I've experienced a kernel panic twice. Both times the display froze entirely (mouse wouldn't move, cmd+tab wouldn't respond, music stopped playing, etc). And both times I was plugged into my 27" Cinema display when it happened, with the Macbook lid shut.

I've been running OS X Maverics (10.9.2) for months now, and I'm on a Late 2013, 13-inch Macbook Pro Retina with 16GB RAM, a 1TB SSD, and a Core i7 processor. I rarely if ever notice performance problems, so the fact that the machine suddenly froze up twice this week seems terribly random.

Today when it happend for the second time, I opened OS X Console to see what was going on around the time of the crash, and noticed what appears to be dozens of lines of these notices:

3/6/14 12:06:53.562 PM iA Writer[745]: CGSCopyDisplayUUID: Invalid display 0x04280600

I searched around and found others with similar issues, but none with a conclusive answer. Some have recommended turning off "Displays have separate Spaces" in mission control settings, but I'm not sure if that's really the solution or just a suggestion.

I also noticed that using something like etrecheck is helpful for these types of discussions, so here's my output from etrecheck:

Have you found any solution yet?

I got 4 freezes today while using Safari and Sparrow. I was connected via thunderbolt to an external screen. Never had any issues before.

The consol log shows this error: 21.07.14 16:37:00.454 Safari[467]: CGSCopyDisplayUUID: Invalid display 0x18f88983
