Q: .mov file won't open in quicktime

I recorded a video with my iphone which is less than 4 minutes long, but it won't open in quicktime on my mac.  Any suggestions?

This is a late reply, but I want to share what I found.  A .mov video recorded on my not-OS-updated iPad would not play in Quicktime on my Mac. I read a bunch of forum questions and didn't feel up to searching codecs to download to support playing in Quicktime X.

Then I remembered that I had Cameo on my iPhone and downloaded it from Vimeo online onto my iPad.  This free, simple editing software will save it online as a .mp4 and then you can download it anew to your Mac.  I can even open it now in Adobe Premiere Elements, which wouldn't open the old .mov. FYI - The larger the file, the longer the upload to Vimeo. a 1:30 video took 5-6 minutes to upload.

Really, is that all we can do?

iPhone 6 - ElCapitain Mac - should be compatible!!!

Is there no answer to this?

I have the same problem:  .mov file won't open on my mac downloaded from iPhone 6 icloud.
