Trying to update ipad to iOS 5, but itunes is not letting me.

I synched up my ipad to itunes and backed things up. I went to the iPad tab and click the update button, but every time I do, it tells me that iTunes 10.3 is the current version. I'm not trying to update itunes, im trying to update my ipad! I don't know what to do!
