newly created album won't sync in itunes

So I wanted to put together a collection of non-specific photos. I created a new album in iPhoto and dragged some selected photos to the new album.

iPhoto showed 30 photos and I could view them there, no problem.

When I went to sync my iPhone 5 to my Mac through iTunes, it showed the album but showed 0 (zero) photos within the album.

I went ahead and synced and, yes there were no photos on my phone after the sync.

Thought that was curious. Restarted iPhoto. Still showed the 30 photos in iPhoto and tried again to sync to the iPhone 5. TaDa! it worked!

Further experimenting - took 3 photos out of the album by <control><click> and remove from album. 27 photos now in iPhoto.

sync again didn't change anything until I restarted iPhoto again!
