Hi there,

Recently I upgraded my iPad 2 to the latest version but lost all my pictures and videos. I remember saving it before it started but cannot locate where it saves them. Will appreciate your help.

Thanks

On your computer go to Edit>Preference>Device and see if there's any backup (tap to enlarge image)

If you go into Edit > Preferences (if the drop-down menus aren't showing then control-B should get them to show) and select the Devices tab then are any devices/backups listed e.g. from http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4079 :   If not then if use windows explorer then can you see if any backups are stored under : Mac: ~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup/The "~" represents your Home folder. If you don't see Library in your home folder, hold Option and click the Go menu.Windows XP: \Documents and Settings\(username)\Application Data\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\To quickly access the Application Data folder, click Start, and choose Run. Type %appdata% and click OK.Windows Vista, Windows 7, and Windows 8: \Users\(username)\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\To quickly access the AppData folder, click Start. In the search bar, type %appdata% and press Return.

It sounds like you've overwritten any backup that might have had the photos and videos in it with a new backup - in which case they are lost. You hadn't also been backing up to the cloud directly on your iPad (Settings > iCloud) ? If not then you won't be able to get them back

    Hi.

Thanks, i tried to recover via I cloud but couldn't find any of my old stuff,  so I tried again via iTunes, I connected it to a computer as instructed but I got a different message.  It says: apple Ipad 0 files.  That it couldn't find any photos or videos on this device.

    Please help, getting frustrated now.

Looks like you did not backup to either iTune or iCloud.

    iTunes

You said that you 'remembered saving it' before the update started. Do you mean that you backed up your iPad to the cloud or to your computer's iTunes - did you do the update directly on your iPad or via your computer's iTunes ?

If you took a backup then you've tried restoring to it - backups and restores : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4079 ?

Or did you manually copy the photos and videos off the iPad to your computer e.g. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083 ? By default on a PC they would have been copied over to the 'My Pictures' folder on your computer. If you don't have a backup and you had copied them off your iPad and you can find them on your computer then you can sync them back to your iPad : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4236

And where/when are you now getting the 'apple iPad 0 files' ? Your computer's iTunes, windows camera wizard on a PC ?

  • GraceOlubukola Level 1 Level 1

I backed up to my computer's iTunes. Update was done via my computer's iTunes as instructed.

Have you've tried restoring to that backup ?

    Backups and restores : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1766

And the pictures/videos were taken with the iPad - if they had originally been synced to your iPad from a computer then they won't have been included in the backup.

Really appreciate your help. However, I cannot find where to edit on my acer computer, have checked all the icons.

  • Diavonex Level 9 Level 9

Did you download and install iTunes on your computer?

No iTune on computer = no iTune Backup

  • GraceOlubukola Level 1 Level 1

No. I just follow the process to upgrade when I did it. I remember I when I was told to connect to a computer to backup my stuffs, it was on iTunes and it sync for a long time.

  • Diavonex Level 9 Level 9

What happen when you re-sync with your computer?

  • GraceOlubukola Level 1 Level 1

I did then but can find it now. Did some installation on my laptop recently, may be during the process the iTunes must have been deleted because I can't find it now.
