Retina MacBook Pro sleep problem since 10.9.2

Ever since updating to 10.9.2 earlier in the week my macbook refuses to wake from sleep each morning.

Having looked at the console logs it seems that perhaps the problem is related to it not actually managing to go to sleep properly.

I closed the lid on the computer at about 19:07 as can be seen in the first of these console dumps. I put the laptop in my bag and went home, where the laptop stayed closed in my bag all night. Apparently the computer awoke 70 minutes later. In the morning, back at the office, I left the lid open for a good 5 minutes before deciding to reboot at 9:37, so it seems that the computer was indeed turned off as there was no activity in these minutes.

Weird huh? Can anyone tell from these logs why it's going mad in my bag? Why would it try and wake and then crash and power-off?

Hmm, it did it again. Again it woke up exactly 70 minutes and 2 seconds after going to sleep and then crashed and powered-off in my bag. This time it must have crashed as I was cycling home.

I've been having similar problems as well. It's been happening ever since the 10.9.2 upgrade.

In my case, I have a 15 MBP w/ Retina which I connect to a Thunderbolt monitor. Since the upgrade, when I disconnect my Mac from my Thunderbolt monitor to head off to a meeting, most of the time my system won't wake back up or crashes. It's happened 5 or 6 times in the last two days alone.

Last night, when I tried to do some work from home, the system wouldn't power on... actually, occasionally, it would power on but then it would shut back off after a few seconds. Suspecting the battery was dead, I plugged my laptop in but still it wouldn't boot.

Fortunately, when I got to work this morning, I reconnected it to my Thunderbolt monitor and, for some strange reason, the system booted. As I suspected, the battery was completely empty. That doesn't explain why it wouldn't boot when plugged in at my home...

To top it off, I left the system connected while I went to a meeting (at this point, I don't dare disconnect it). While I was at the meeting, the system went to sleep of it's own accord and, wouldn't you know it, I couldn't get it to wake up. I had to power cycle it yet again!

I'm at my wit's end. I've had nothing but problems with this machine since the Mavericks upgrade (which I performed over an existing Mountain Lion installation). I regret the day I ever made that upgrade.

Slight update for me.

Starting saturday I have been shutting down before unplugging a USB, HDMI or Thunderbolt device. The bad wake behavior has not occurred. This obviously is not acceptable and was not at all necessary prior to the 10.9.2 upgrade.

Seems clear from this posting that there is a bug in Mavericks with MacBook Airs but mine is a 2013 MBPR. http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=1708304

I've started having this issue too, only since the 10.9.2 upgrade, on my 2013 MBP Retina. So far I haven't had the sleep-crash if I've let it sleep while plugged into a power source. Has anyone had the sleep-crash while plugged in? I'm going to try turning off Power Nap (the cause of the mid-sleep wakeups) and see if that stops the crashing. Has anyone else tried this? I'll report what I find.

Resetting the SMC and NVRAM/PRAM seems to have solved the issue for me.

I note that it's seemingly impossible to know whether the SMC gets reset though, which is weird. I did try that on the weekend, and then back in the office had the problem again. I then tried to reset the SMC again and then the NVRAM/PRAM and this morning the computer awoke correctly for the first time on 10.9.2. Fingers crossed that the issue is now fixed permanently.
