Encrypt partition with /Users/

How would I encrypt another physical drive which contains all User Home Directories?

I use this setup:

SSD: OS X Boot + Programs (Encrypted with Filevault 2)

HDD: Master volume with /Users/ directories. (Currently not encrypted)

Would I be able to just right-click the HDD in finder and press Encrypt? I'd expect not being able to boot into OS X then, because the SSD doesn't have user folders.

iMac (27-inch Mid 2011), OS X Mavericks (10.9.2)

The only sure way to make that setup work would be to have a stub account on the startup volume that you use only to mount it and the Users volume. It would make a lot more sense to combine the two devices as a Fusion Drive.
