The Music that are there on your iTunes Library are they physically available in your Mac, I mean are you able to play them on your Mac when you are not connected to Internet ?

Just try to Disconnect Internet connection on your Mac and then try to play the song just to confirm if it is in the Cloud or physically downloaded in the iTunes Library. And also try to drag and drop any data from your Mac to the Thumb Drive as said by " Chris CA" and see if it copies.

Hi Chris, yes I can drag images and Pdf's to the drive without any problems on my desktop to the drive okay. Also able to drag music placed onto my desktop from my itunes library to the drive??? Strange; Imagine having to copy all of my music to the desktop before placing them on my drive? I was once a qualified Mac Tech but this newer version of lion/mountain lion has got me. I haven't upgraded to the Mavrick OS yet due to lost data when I first changed over to Lion when it was first released. What gives with the techs at Apple these days? Wish Steve was still around.

Oh and yes I can play these song while not connected to the internet. Cheers,

    Thanks for assisting.

Not an answer but an observation.  We have a Sansa Clip mp3 player, FAT formatted.  I can drag tracks from iTunes to the top level of the drive but not to folders.  Once they are on the drive I can drag to folders in Finder.  Note, I am still using iTunes 7.5 on OSX 10.4.11 (which were released when Steve Jobs was CEO and if your problem is the same then it was around for over 6 years while he was boss so I don't think he was omnipotent).

Yes it was probably over six years ago now. Then it should be as simple as click drag and drop. We can do it with evrerything else why not Itunes. Also since updating all of my playlists are now gone so I have to start rebuilding those too. Not too hard to ask for.

In iTunes click the song while holding CTL key: choose "show in Finder", then drag/drop from the Finder!

That is also when in other Libraries.

Well you can open the files in finder and copy and paste to the USB drive. A lot of messing around here. Do not drag and drop from the finder because this will remove them from your itunes library. So open folders (songs) in finder and right click and paste to thumb drive. You can selllect multple songs from the same folder by holding down the CMD key+ left click to sellect individual songs then CTL + right click to "copy" then right click on the drive icon on desktop and past. This way the songs still remain in your library too. It is the only way I can do it with my system the way it is. Hope this helps others.
