I can't get the imessage icon off my dock on my mackbook pro. I've tried several things and I still can't get it off the dock. I don't want to delete it but I just want it to stay in the appications list. I don't like it on the dock for privacy reasons.
MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.6.8)
Quit Messages then drag it out of the dock.
Open applications show in the dock. It will be in the dock as long as it is open.

Quit the message app. if it is running command tab to the running app and Q for quit ( all the while continuing to hold the command key.)
Then drag the icon off the Dock.
