I have a Mac OS X 10.6.8. How can I remove NeoOffice and Open Office word processing from my Mac, but keep the ability of opening the docs they were used for creating?

I have a Mac OS X 10.6.8. How can I remove Open Office and NeoOffice from it and still be able to open the documents they were used to create?

How can I be as compatible as possible with MS word processing? I work with people who use computers other than Macs.

MacBook, Mac OS X (10.6.8)

Yes. Use Spotlight to search for all files ending in .odx. However, I don't know if they use different extensions for word processing, spreadsheet, etc. You can select one of each. Press COMMAND-I to open the Get Info window. In one of the middle panes it will show you the filename with an extension. If it's invisible then uncheck the Hide box.
