Audio Problem - 2nd Generation

Hi everyone,

I have a 2nd generation iPod touch which has a few issues I cannot pinpoint.

Firstly no audible sounds come from the iPod, when you try to change the volume there is nothing happens on screen and there is no volume bar. When you put headphones in you can hear all the sounds but if I try to change the volume with the side buttons it doesn't change, I can change the volume on screen as a volume bar now appears. If I then put the iPod in a dock then I plays music through the dock and I can change the volume through both the buttons and on screen, if I can play a song while the iPod is in the dock and take it out it continues playing the song through the iPod speaker for 1 second and then stops.

I can repair apple devices but I'm stumped where the problem lies. I can changed the volume on the settings which didn't do anything and I have done a reset, which had no affect.

Please can someone help?

Thanks

Andy

- Try cleaning out/blowing out the headphone jack. Try inserting/removing the plug a dozen times or so. There is a little switch in the headphone jack that disconnects the speaker when the headphone jack is inserted.

Try the following to rule out a software problem

- Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost

Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at

least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.

- Reset all settings

Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.

All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.

- Restore from backup

- Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.

- Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store. Seems you have a bad headphone jack.

Apple Retail Store - Genius Bar

If not under warranty Apple will exchange your iPod for a refurbished one for this price. They do not fix yours.

A third-party place like the following will replace the jack for less. Google for more.

iPhone Repair, Service & Parts: iPod Touch, iPad, MacBook Pro Screens

Replace the jack yourself
