Hi all,
I am completely frustrated! HELP! I have an iPhone 4s, fully updated, and when I turn on a setting such as iMessage under settings, there is an "I" in the green portion. I am finding that I can send messages, probably as a text, but I cannot receive any messages as an iMessage from people using iMessage. Any ideas how I can fix this? I already tried resetting my settings.

I looked through these links and cannot find an answer. My apple ID is current and activated. I get no error messages. Any other thoughts?
Your iMessage is not activated. Your Apple ID is current and activated but not for iMessage it seems. You have to go through the links I've provided and troubleshoot.
But it is the same for all my settings that are turned on, such as cellular data, everything under notifications, etc. The "I" appears in the green section. Any thoughts?
I means ON (green) O means OFF (gray)

Then why is imessage on and no one that has imessage can get my texts?
Check Settings > Messages > Send & Receive > your phone number selected?
Start new conversations from: your phone number selected here?
Is there a link that talks about why there is an "I" when you turn a setting on?

You need to remove the second image. Your phone number is clearly visible.

Now I see what you meant.
The I on the buttons.
The answer is you have in Settings > General > Accessibility > On/Off Labels: ON.
If you switch that Off the I on buttons will disappear.
