OS X 10.4.7

I have a new (week 29) mbp. It came with os x 10.4.6. After software updates ran a few times, there have been no more updates. Now, cruising the mac site, i saw a download for os x 10.4.7.

Is there a reason .6 doesn't update to .7 automatically? There's no disclaimer on the apple support download page. Am I supposed to routinely look here for updates that software update does not handle?

Also, what's new or changed in 10.4.7?

At www.apple.com/support/downloads/ you will find the 10.4.7 (Intel) updaters (Delta and Combo.) Read the accompanying readme information to find out what's new.

System Preferences -> Software Update

Make sure you have "Check for Updates" enabled.

It will show up for you eventually. There are several SW update servers that Apple has throughout the world (and US) and the one in your geographic area may have been down or not showing that update for some reason.

Automatically requires a setting.

Go to system preferences>software update and set the setting you want.

If you want to manually check, under blue apple, select software update.

I think when he says "automatically", he means "an option when running software update on a 10.4.6 system".

I'm also seeing posts (homertime33) that installing 10.4.7 seems to have caused the infamous whine. Before sending my mbp off to applecare for a non-functioning keyboard/trackpad, everything else was perfect - no heat issue, no shutdowns, and no wierd noises.

does anyone know why/if updating the os causes noise issues?

It is possible that different revs of an OS can have different/new processes that are running than were before or the HD is now working harder.

In any case, it's always best to use combo updaters and repair permissions before and after the updates.
