Hi Matt, your suggestion did not help my problem of getting rid of the "Ask Search Toolbar". I use Chrome web browser on both iMac and a PC so that my wife can see the same I/F which is easier for her use of both computers. She herself inadverently installed the "Ask Search Toolbar" which is a form of a malware.
I succeeded in removing the Ask toolbar on iMac by using the following sequence of pulldown menus:
"Chrome"
=> "Preferences"
=> "Advanced" tab
=> "Restore" option
Using "restore" option returned Chrome browser to the original "installed" version, eliminating the unintended "Ask toolbar malware".
If you're using Safari, that's an Extension. Go to the Safari menu, then Preferences, then Extensions, select the Ask toolbar and click Uninstall.
You didn't mention you were using Chrome in your original question. All browsers have different ways of removing extensions/add-ons. Glad you worked it out.
Matt
I had tried everything to get rid of ASK on my 27' iMac....followed your advice above here in Chrome and POOF - it was gone...awesome...thank-you......It was sooooooo frustrating.
THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!! I've been trying to get rid of that for forever!
