Verizon iPhone 4 and T-Mobile Galaxy s4 not receive each others text.

I have a verizon iPhone 4 and when I text me friend who has a T-Mobile Galaxy s4 we don't receive eachothers texts and he has never previously had a iPhone! help this is so frustrating.

iPhone 4, iOS 7.0.5
