Numeric, Decimal places. Type it in correctly, 123.45.
In Excel, select the cell or group of cells you want to work on (you can even select the whole sheet, with command and A - two keys together). Then click Format in the menu bar and select Cells. In the new pane click Number. Select the format you want.
I think you may be looking for this. It's a global change to your settings, which will apply to Excel.
Have Excel closed before checking:
1) On main tool bar click the apple, and select "System Preferences".
2) Select "Language & Region"
3) In this window select "Advanced..."
4) You will see : "Number separators:" With settings for Grouping & Decimal.
Check these to see if they are correct for your region. Set them to what you want restart Excel and see if it correct it. You'll notice at the bottom of the window it shows an example of the settings.
You may want to check all the settings like currency, measurements, dates, time, ...etc.
