My Mac wallpaper and dock have disappeared

I can use all applications normally, but I have to open them from the Finder as the LaunchPad and everything to do with the desktop is not functioning. I can't even make any applications into fullscreen. My wallpaper is not showing, just a grey screen, even though I've tried changing it several times. My dock is nowhere to be seen. I tried the 'killall Dock' and every other 'killall' technique on terminal, it does not work. It tells me that no matching processes can be found (yes, I am the administrator so that's not the issue). I tried accessing the Preferences folder, but the plist files related to the desktop or the dock are not there. I tried logging out/restarting several times, nothing. I'm on the edge right now, please help.

MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Early 2013), OS X Mavericks (10.9.2)
