how to speed up my mac

My mac was purchased in 2008. It has slowed a little in connectivity. Would like to increase speed. Any advice?

Internet connectivity? If so, how is it connected? Dial-up; DSL; cable modem?

Are you connecting to your modem wired or wirelessly?

There are sites that measure your internet speed so you can compare to what your ISP claims to be giving you. Try:

http://www.speedtest.net/

or

http://speakeasy.net/speedtest/

If you use the second one, the Chicago, Dallas, and Atlanta servers will display closest to your best possible speed.

Have yo uinstalled any anti-virus software or a one of those "I'll clean your Mac" programs? They are poison to good performance.

Adding RAM will not help an internet connectivity problem. However a call to your ISP may. Just ask to speak with a tech who knows that "Mac" is more than hamburgers. Many ISP techs are so stuck in Windows they can hardly function outside that dungeon.
