Q: Extending wireless network, switching to Ethernet; question?

I currently have a Time Capsule in an upstairs office, wirelessly (in bridge mode) extending the signal from an Airport Extreme downstairs where the cable modem is located. I understand that this arrangement effectively cuts the available wi-fi bandwidth over the whole netwok in half.

I am about to install a direct Ethernet link between the two rooms, and intend thereby to connect the upstairs Time Capsule to the downstairs Airport Extreme while still providing wireless connectivity upstairs. My question, since I can't seem to find a discussion of this specific case online: do I need to change anything in the router configurations? Will the upstairs Time Capsule still function in the same bridge mode setup it currently uses, just automatically start extending the ethernet signal instead of using half the wi-fi bandwidth by extending it wirelessly? Will I indeed realize a doubling of available bandwidth for my home wi-fi network merely by plugging in the Time Capsule?

If you have good links to information about this specific use case, please feel free to share.

Many thanks in advance!
