Nov 8, 2015 11:04 AM in response to Loner Tby Rick Kuntz1,After refreshing, not a single yellow triangle or exclamation mark. Do we think Apple screwed this "update" up?
Interesting.

Nov 8, 2015 11:16 AM in response to Loner Tby Rick Kuntz1,So you downloaded the 5.1.5640 onto a USB and no error messages during installation?
1. When you did it, did you do it as an "upgrade" for the drivers?
2. How was your USB formatted (I used FAT32)
3. Maybe it's a hardware thing.
-
Nov 8, 2015 12:55 PM in response to Rick Kuntz1by Loner T,1. W7 was a clean installation, not an upgrade.
2. FAT32. BCA erased/formatted again, anyway.
3. Unlikely, because 5.1.5640 should support the specific HW configuration. If you have modified hardware, then it may run into issues.

Nov 8, 2015 1:00 PM in response to Loner Tby Rick Kuntz1,I suppose this is all strange then. I did a clean installation of windows 7 pro and all went very well. Then I see this appparent upgrade for the drivers and I'm not sure if it installed or not given the context of the error messages. There remains a mystery. I imagine the conclusion is if it isn't broke don't fix it or even upgrade it.

Nov 8, 2015 2:08 PM in response to Rick Kuntz1by Loner T,Can you go to the Program and Feature and check the version and dates with the two different Bootcamp.xml files you have (.5640 and .6133)?

Nov 8, 2015 2:29 PM in response to TorcidaNDHby SocialSpit,When I was installing Bootcamp on Mavericks , it downloaded all of the support files to my Flash Drive. I used those to install. Usually, if there are updates available for bootcamp for your model of machine, it notifies you in the Apple Software Updates app (The one in the Windows partition). It seems to me that for mavericks, there have been no updates for that version of the Support Software.
You can probably run your Bootcamp assistant to download the needed support files for your machine, probably without deleting your existing bootcamp volume. Just exit the app after it downloads the files. That will at least give you the latest available versions for your system.

Nov 8, 2015 2:34 PM in response to SocialSpitby Rick Kuntz1,You mean the Apple Software Updates on the Window machine. None there so far. Running BCA yields the wrong updates for Windows 7, It loads those for Windows 10 as mentioned earlier.

****! Is your Windows 7 showing the "GWX" Windows 10 update irritation? Remove that, it's KB3035583. That might help.
So, you don't have any support files installed at all? Try downloading them from Bootcamp Assistant on the Mac side. You can download them without having to run the whole assistant. Or is that the one that is downloading the wrong files? I suppose I can up the files I got from mavericks into my Dropbox, but I don't know if that solution is allowed. I'm zipping them up now just in case.

Nov 8, 2015 3:01 PM in response to SocialSpitby Rick Kuntz1,I just want to point out that my Windows7 Pro in BootCamp is functioning normally. I was just trying to update the files as I thought they were needed to use the Apple Thunderbolt to Ethernet adapter (Broadcom).
I'm not sure where to look for the KB3035583 information you are referring to. I did download the 5.1.5640 from the Apple site; it just won't finish installing on my machine with the above referenced error screen.
Maybe I should just leave it this way and see if the adapter works when it arrives; if not I'll get them from Broadcom's site and update the drivers that way?

Nov 8, 2015 3:12 PM in response to Rick Kuntz1by SocialSpit,Well if you have the base support files installed, it might be OK. When you get the hardware, see if Windows 7 detects and installs the driver, or run the Broadcom driver installer again, just by itself, from the 'Drivers/Apple' folder (Of the Windows Support folder). Or, try the drivers from Broadcom site. Usually Windows will find any available drivers online, if they are available at all. Sometimes you have to find them and manually install them.
To get rid of the nasty Windows 10 notification, open Control panel to "Programs and Features", go to Installed Updates, and look for KB3035583 and just remove it, right click on it and "Uninstall".
Under windows 10, it might auto detect the hardware immediately. The only thing good about Windows 10 is that you can use old drivers if you want, because all of my printers and scanners are ancient devices, you can use the Windows XP installers if need be. But, you really don't want Windows 10, it's just not as good as 7.

Nov 8, 2015 3:26 PM in response to Rick Kuntz1by Loner T,The TB-to-Ethernet is a PCIe bridge. Windows requires a reboot for TB devices in general on older TB Macs. The 2015 Macs are supposed to support plug-and-play. Please see Thunderbolt ports and displays: Frequently asked questions (FAQ) - Apple Support .

Nov 8, 2015 3:35 PM in response to Loner Tby SocialSpit,Yah I think it's most likely the hardware will detect and install immediately, all of the drivers seem to be there. The only problem I had was with the BlueTooth drivers, Bootcamp only supports BT to iPhone if using the iPhone's Internet tethering. Some Brand name Windows systems can connect to the whole device so you can control it with the PC, but mac's drivers don't support that. And it found my BT Apple Mouse and Keyboard right away, after a reboot they came up.
