Hold the Control key and click the Dock icon you want to remove

and a 'contextual menu' will appear by the dock icon, so you can

choose to remove it that way. Sometimes, if you also hold the

mouse button (well the main one, mine has only one) for several

seconds on the Dock icon you want to remove the same menu

will appear with choices on how to handle that item.

Opera itself is in the Applications folder, drag that from there.

If you control+click a Docked folder, a different menu content appears.

Good luck & happy computing! 🙂

If Opera was installed to the Hard Disk Drive, and not the Applications folder,

the Spotlight search (if it has indexed the computer hard drive) should find it.

Are you using Spotlight, the magnifying glass icon from the Finder?

That should not show any results from previous internet searches.

Are you running the computer in an Admin user account? You may not have

privileges or permissions to change the system, or remove things, if not.

{The older versions of Opera were fairly good, but recent changes led

them to adopt code from Google; so FireFox is a better bet if you do

not use Safari all that often, or for different web content.}

Well, you could try booting in SafeBoot then see about removing the browser.

I did a fair bit of reading and searched around online awhile, and then settled

on what I wrote above; as I too found out the newer Opera could be more

difficult to remove. And most info I did find appeared to be for Windows on

the Opera site. The Opera support pages have become less helpful recently.

In some of my older Macs I have Opera, though the version is no longer

supported with patches, and these older versions were better. Few issues.

And older vintage Macs can't use the newer build models. So I use iCab,

or SeaMonkey, or TenFourFox, etc. But still have Safari, Opera, FireFox.

You may have to also see if 'repair disk permissions' can help, even if you

have to run it in SafeBoot, in order to hope to remove Opera. Maybe you

could look into Opera (Get Info after single-click its icon) to see if the

privileges and permissions are changed. You may have to click a lock to

change them, so as to remove it. I'd try SafeBoot, & permission repair.

Good luck & happy computing! 🙂
