I was going to download a free magazine app but cancelled it partway through the download. It never showed up on my ipad screen but is in Settings, it show the mag app in the Notification area. I have turned off notifications but want it off my ipad. Because there is no icon anywhere but in the notification area, I cannot delete it. Please help.

Try resetting the iPad and then see if the icon shows up so that you can either delete the app, or continue the download and then delete the app if you don't want it.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.

To find a partially downloaded App do below. It can can be deleted from here. This is also the place to see how much space that Apps, pictures, games etc are using on your pad. Thanks to Bob for his help.
Go to settings> general> usage> show all apps.
