Desktop Apps
When I launch an app from the dock it polaces an icon on the desktop that I cannot remove. Why does it place the icon on the desktop and how can I get it delted?

Because you're launching it from the mounted dmg. Quit the application, double-click the desktop icon, drag the application inside to the Applications folder, drag that to the Dock, eject the dmg, and remove the old application from the Dock.
