Hard drive does not stop spinning on old iPod

I have been trying to reset the iPod, as well as let it kill the battery chrge, but noting works had purchased this as a refurbished iPod from Apple. The old one did the same thing this is fire a wire unit and probably 2nd generation. Any ideas?

How hard would it be to replace hard drive or is it worth it?

The one you have right now, that you are asking about, is a 2nd gen iPod (from 2002)? Or that's the "old one." If so, what model is the newer one?

If it's a 2nd gen iPod, it may actually be worth fixing, because of the "collectors" value of the old iPod. This web site has repair guides (if you are good a such things)

Make sure you are doing the Reset correctly. The buttons to press are different for that iPod, compared to more recent models with a click wheel

There are times when the iPod hard drive is supposed to continue to spin. For example, when it is connected to the computer, and if the iPod is set to Enable disk use (or Manually manage music), the hard drive may continue to spin until the iPod is ejected.

Does the iPod appear in iTunes when connected? Does it work as a iPod and play music?
