How to stream audio with itunes from macmini using remote app to my stereo using cable connection?

I have a mac mini in our living room and a stereo in the next room. when i stream music using home sharing via airport extreme controlled by ios remote app the music drops out/hickups occour. It seems my wlan isn´t stable enough - walls too thick. Which cable connection (through the wall) should i use to connect my macmini directly to my stereo (it has both usb & optical input) so that i can still control it using ios remote app?
