Are Thunderbolt and Lightning connections the same?

I recently purchased an iPhone 5c which has the Lightning connection on it. I have an iMac with the Thunderbolt ports on it. Are they the same and if so where can I purchase the sync/charger cables at?

iMac (27-inch, Late 2012), OS X Mavericks (10.9.2)

Completely different. Use a Lightning to USB cable to a USB port on the computer.

In fact, I'll add don't find this out by trying. I had a bit of confusion for some moments and tried plugging my iPod 5G's USB to lightning cable (with nothing attached) in to the thunderbolt port of my Early 2011 MacBook Pro (plugged in). It fit (strangely well), but lost power immediately (as if you'd held down the power button to turn off the computer, as is sometimes necessary (but not recommended) in emergencies) and turned off. I hope I didn't ruin any circuitry. The hard drive tested out ok, though.
