How is the printer connected? By USB it will never work.

If you have the printer connected by ethernet then the TC is unlikely to have any part in the setup. Particularly if you can print. The problem is more likely to be drivers for the latest Mavericks.

You can easily test this.. use a switch instead of the TC to connect the computer and the printer. You can also simply use another brand router.. does the situation change at all??

You must use the ethernet connection.. that is the only way a network multifunction device can work.. do not use USB for MFP as you will never get more than printing through it. The Apple router can function as a print server.. it is not a scan server.
