Why does IR Utility create distorted peaks when deconvolving?

I am trying to make impulse resonses of a hardware delay unit that I own. The Sweep Generator seems to work fine, audio gets recorded at around -20dB, but when I use the Deconvolve function to create the impulse response the audio peaks past 0 at one particular point. Why is that? I exported the audio as a .SDIR file, renamed the file extension to .WAV, and opened them in an audio editor and they are indeed clipping. Is there anyway I can make an IR without clipping it?
