I have downloaded all of my email from my Google Apps Gmail account. It is all in Apple Mail. When I export the folders I want to back up, the file size is ridiculously small compared to what I have in those folders in Gmail or Apple Mail. For example, 75MBs = 432 bytes on .mbox file.
I am afraid not everything with attachments has transferred over. Any advice?

Thanks for the reply. I believe everything is properly set up and was able to export the Apple Mail mailbox. WHen looking at the "Get Info" for the files on the export, the files size seems too small to have included everything I exported. make sense?
The file sizes you quoted are far too small to contain much (any) data.
How are you exporting the files?
I am selecting the folder, then going to export mailbox, it asks for destination then I click ok.
