for $600 you should be able to find a 13-inch Mid 2010 MacBook Pro in good condition with at least 4 GB of RAM. (I’d recommend 8 GB; if you’re patient, you should be able to find one with 8 GB in your budget.) Mavericks is non-transferable for any Mac that didn’t come from the factory with Mavericks installed, so make sure that your Mac comes with its original pair of grey installation DVDs. You should plan on downloading Mavericks (as well as a version of Xcode that runs under Mavericks).

Jun 20, 2014 9:50 AM in response to r_h2014by Bobo Blobo,I have purchased all my Apple products used from the Amazon Marketplace. Go with a high rated seller that has a good description of the product and you can save a lot of money!

Jun 20, 2014 10:52 AM in response to r_h2014by benjames722,I would recommend going to craigslist. I know craigslist isn't the best place to be searching for things just because the fact that it most likely hasn't been refurbished and it may have some cosmetic flaws, but near me, in Wisconsin, I've found MacBook Pro's anywhere from $450-$700 and majority of which are in good condition and run great.
I know buying a newer MacBook isn't ideal in your situation as far as the cost, but in my opinion you may be better off saving a few more months, and getting something newer. Just because you are going to have less power and less capability than you would on a new one. I recently purchased the Newest MacBook Pro and I can honestly say it runs circles around my friends MacBook Pro from 2010-2011. Not to mention, obviously if you plan on keeping it for an extended period of time like I do with mine, the newer it is the more compatible it will most likely be with newer software that Apple comes out with. Just a thought for you, I know that others have great places to buy from, but from my experience with some of the developing I am doing at the present moment a newer MacBook Pro is working fantastically for me.
Good luck! I hope you find what you are looking for!
P.S. eBay normally has people selling them for a good price.
