Q: ios7.1 thanks for destroy my wifi

Hi again ;-)

There are several tricks, but the easiest was to install two apps called SmoothSync for Cloud. One for contacts, the other for calendar.

For pictures, I moved to dropbox.

I too discovered the grayed out wifi after my update to 7.1 on my 4S, however I did a search myself.  On a Canadian website they recommended the following:

I did this and then the following:

After taking it out of the refrigerator I then put it in "Airplane" mode, then did a hard shut down by pushing the off button and home button simultaneously, waiting until the apple logo reappears.  Then my wifi showed up, I moved the button to wifi and then turned off "Airplane" mode.  This worked for me after weeks of not having wifi.

I hope this helps someone else who is just as frustrated as I was.

Dude it's happening to many people. I am convinced it's an obsolescence trigger for the 4S. In went to the apple store to get this fixed and they did a firmware upgrade. My lord. Did they ever mess things up. Now the phone thinks it's on a docking station. They basically broke my phone further and told me that in order to fix it I would have to pay the $199. Samsung galaxy is next on my list of phones.

I had no wifi after 7.1, the phone was struggling to connect using a DHCP assigned IP address like 165.254.244.65 ?? which bears no resemblance whatsoever to any IP address that my router's DHCP server would assign. I gave my phone a static IP address that was within the range of IPs that my router assigns and it now it connects every time.

Ok here we go.

To start with I wanna say I am an IT specialist with lots of experience.

After updating an iPhone 4s to the newest IOS eversion (IOS7.1) the phone has been having connectivity problems through WIFI. Sometime it works for less than a minute and then it disconnects. The button is not grayed out and Bluetooth is working properly. No the problem is also not the router. This is happing on all the places that it was working prior to the update.(home, work at friend and hotspots).

So for the stubborn people out there

Yes I have turned the phone to the airplane mode and back

Yes I have pressed the start button and the home button for a rest

yes I have rest the router (just to be 200 percent sure)

yes I have rest the Network settings on the IPhone

Yes I have rest the hole phone to the factory settings (hard reset without putting back the backup)

The problem persist! When I try to manually connect to any Wifi network, I receive the following massage. “Unable to join the network”

My conclusion is that this is a software problem.

From the reaction on this discussion and on the internet it is clear that I am not the only person with the same problem. Meanwhile I  am getting very impatient because at home I have very poor GPRS connection. I cannot use my smartphone for what it is meant at this moment

I am wondering when apple  is going to address this issue?

When can we (your customers ) expect an update and acknowledgment of this problem?

Your conclusion is incorrect.  If it was a software issue, then all iPhone 4S units running the same iOS would have the same problem.

It's the hardware.  Get the device serviced or replaced.

As I understood the WIfi chip and the Bluethooth are one  the same?

If the chip is dead why the Bluetooth is working?

If the Wifi is broken why does it sometime work?

Do you think that Apple is continuously using the exact chipset in all its production?

How come that some people with iPhone 5 have this issue as well?

As for my last question from my original reply, it  is just talking out loud.
