Q: Have a 2007 imac running mavericks and want to change ownership
I was given a mid 2007 imac. It is running OS X 10.9.1. I want to change the ownership to my apple account for upgrades and app purchases. What do I need to do to make this imac mine? This is also my first mac and I am looking to change from pc to mac. I know i will lose all the programs on the imac but I can purchase any I need later. I do not have any install discs with the machine, can I make an OS X install disk from the system on the machine now?

You need to boot the machine with the original install disc, wipe the HD, reinstall the OS, and then update/upgrade as desired. If you don't have the discs, call AppleCare and request replacement discs. Should be available for nominal S&H.
