Bad link spammed my contacts by email and text

I opened a spam link that came in as a text from a bogus number on my iPhone 4. It then propagated itself by immediately sending the same link out to several of my contacts by email AND text. I thought the iPhone was not susceptible to viruses? Do I need to wipe my phone now?
