Restrict Personal Hotspot?

I figured out how to do this, although it is unconventional.

It is a bug and done through a config profile/MDM.

I do not want to post the way I did it so Apple engineers won't "fix" the bug. It is not a "hack" and is all applied through valid configuration profile settings and Apple versions of iOS.

If you would like to know how I did this please send me an email and I will tell you how I did it. My email should show up in my profile to registered users.

TL;DR - This isn't really a fix - it ends up breaking the data connection after a week or two.

I was able to disable it by filling in bogus information in the APN (Access Point Name) profile category. When I did this it still allowed for data to go over LTE. It did not disable the option to turn on the hotspot on the iPhone and when the user tried to turn it on it would appear to work (blue bar on top of iphone interface) but no data would actually get routed. Unfortunately after a week or two somehow the LTE caught up and started trying to use this APN configuration setting and the LTE data on the device stopped working as well.

I believe Apple removed the option to disable hotspot from MDM sometime in October 2013. I have done some very basic reaching out to Apple but haven’t got anywhere. I am guessing at this point we would need to prod the engineers to get more information or the feature re-implemented. If anyone ever makes any headway please let me know, thank you!

There is no way to accomplish this. The solution worked for a couple days and then broke the phone's Internet connection completely.
