Q: Touch ID doesn't work after iOS 7.1 Update

After installing iOS 7.1 Touch ID stopped working. When I put my finger on the sensor nothing happens.

I already tried rebooting and switching Touch ID on and off. None of that seemed to work. Is there anyone else experiencing similar problems?

Update: Right now I'm trying to set up a new fingerbrint but it doesnt even start scanning when I put my finger on. It just doesnt do anything. I have a feeling that the sensor might be broken...

To me the fact that Apple immediately replaces evey phone with this problem says that Apple knows it is a hardware problem. When was the last time you got an "official" statement from Apple about anything?

If it's a hardware fault, than how come it works perfectly fine when connected to charging.

It's a software issue and since the Touch ID is not working, the battery lasts longer than before.

Last week, when they called here, saying they are working on it. I`ve said this before but you seem to perfectly ignore anything written in this thread, other your own posts.

    Hear `ya man!

I remember me telling my customers that Apple might not be as feature rich as others, but was the most reliable mobile OS. Lately I am really having trouble to convince people of that. One of my most important customers made the decision to go for Android for its employees devices (about 8000 units). Not that Android would be better than iOS, but at least we have the opportunity to fix the issues the OS has and use that branch instead.

With iOS people dont have nothing, not even the chance to dongrade to a more reliable state of the OS. Oh yeah, iOS7 is adopted by 90% of all Apple devices.... sure, because the average user doesn`t have the chance to downgrade again. This might not affect me as a developer, but I am thinking of i.e. my mom which didnt even know devices like this existed before I gave one to her.

My touch id unlock has been getting steadily worse.  I did a reinstall last week.  I have reset my prints half a dozen times now and it just does not read them properly anymore, extremely frustrating to say the least.

Time to replace the phone, which Apple will do for free.

Do you have static electric problems around the house?

When waking up now I try and be careful to touch the frame before touching the button for fear that static sparks are burning out the ring sensor. The actual finger print scanner always works once the ring sensor has detected my touch, but the ring sensor burned out and so it never scanned. It never said the finger scan failed because it never started.

Great! Mine still works as well as after the 7.1 update, I hope this fixes the issue for most of those who have had this problem in the past.

Right now after updating to iOS 7.1.1 it seems to work quite well, but I'll keep you updated as to how it reacts in warm conditions for me!

Installed the update yesterday and used the device throughout the day (heavy GPS-usage, Phonecalls, Development). Even left it behind the windshild of my car during lunchtime to really fry that thing.

So far, TouchID worked flawless every single time.
