Q: Touch ID doesn't work after iOS 7.1 Update

After installing iOS 7.1 Touch ID stopped working. When I put my finger on the sensor nothing happens.

I already tried rebooting and switching Touch ID on and off. None of that seemed to work. Is there anyone else experiencing similar problems?

Update: Right now I'm trying to set up a new fingerbrint but it doesnt even start scanning when I put my finger on. It just doesnt do anything. I have a feeling that the sensor might be broken...

Same problem--fingerprint sensor stopped working after installing iOS7.1. Worked fine before. Rebooted, redid fingerprints twice. Now does not work at all. Fix SOON !!!

I've just realize that when I slide my finger in the sensor and then put my finger... the Touch ID works; it's like cleaning the sensor with your finger (first time) and then you have to put the finger....

This doesn't solve the problem, but it helps to unlock the iPhone

okay, so everything was working after reset and reboot and then the 5s got hot when it was used for a call and then it crashed and upon restart the touch id is broken again. did an erase, reset and reboot... touch id still broken... put it in the freezer for 30 seconds... the touch id worked for 4 scans and dead again. i am almost convinced that temperature is an issue... dont know but some component, maybe the sensor, is getting to warm and it quits working... the freezer trick not i have tried about 10 times and each time it fixes the problem until the 5s gets warm again.

I all, I am also facing the same issues

My touch ID was working perfectly before updating to IOS 7.1 and then it stopped working

I reset the phone and deleted the fingerprints and now I can't even add a figerprint again. How can apple sort this out?

    Thanks

Even though I checked this thread before the update I still tried it (as I usually had to tap twice with my left thumb, sometimes it would not work at all, right thumb and right index finger were more reliable though).

I guess I was lucky as I had none of the problems mentioned in this thread. My registered fingers all continued to work and the reliability of the left thumb reading seems to have improved a great deal. I am sorry for all of you who had problems and hope Apple will provide a solution soon, but I still wanted to provide a positive note anyways.

It's temperature related.... everytime I cool it down, it works flawlessly... hope we get a minor update to fix this issue...

That would be hard to believe, after the update to IOS 7.1 during which it was powered my iPhone was as hot as it does not get otherwise, and I still had no problems with Touch ID. Maybe only some units are affected by a haywire temperature sensor?

In my 50 years in the computer industry I have never encountered heat sensitive software. If it is affected by temperature it is a hardware problem. No software change can fix it. As all iPhone 5S's are still in warranty take it to an Apple store and get it replaced.

the problem is everytime the phone connected to computer or charger, the sensor works fine, and my iphone touch id works fine before updating to 7.1 final (even in all 7.1 beta it works fine) and everybody got the trouble when they were updating to 7.1 final...

for everyone with the problem, just try connecting the phone to computer or charger and try the sensor
