mac book not turning off

I just updated my mac book pro to the new software and now when I go to turn off my mac book pro it just goes to sleep the option to turn it off doesn't even show up. What do I do?

Behavior of power button is changed.

If the power button is tapped and held for 1second, the computer goes to sleep.

Hold the power button for 5 seconds or more, the Mac shuts down.

which model MacBook Pro do you have? Which new software did you just install? Exactly what do you see when you go to turn off your MacBook Pro?
