what photo app have flip and thinify features

There are two features that are missing in iPhoto "FLIP" and 'THINIFY', that I am often using. "Thinify" is part of "Make over" in Corel Paint Photo Shop Pro.

Is there a photo application for Mac Pro that will have these two features?

I just purchased "Snapheal" but it only has "flip" option.

Any suggestions?

take a picture in "Preview", click "Tools", then "Adjust Size".

In that window, UNcheck "Scale proportionnally", and adjust the width ( or height ) as you wish.

Is that the kinda "thinify" effect you want ?

You'll have to experiment, lotta stuff there ( including the "resample image" option ).

Some experimenting also after that to bring back the picture into iphoto.

For now, long story short, save the resulting picture as a "Save as" ( leaving your original untouched ), on "Desktop", from where you can reintroduce it in iphoto.

P.S.: "flip" is also in the "Tools" dropdown menu

Wow, Thank You! It works!

I can save image directly to iPhoto. (OS X version 10.9.2 )

I'm new to Apple and no one at iPhoto workshop at the store, was able to help me with this problem.

I already bought "Snapheal" since it offers "Flip" in its application. Now I am on trial version for Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 5, since looks like with this software I can thin or elongate the image. ("Aspect" in "Lens Corrections)

Adobe is expensive, so your advise is GREATLY appreciated.

I am a visual artist and since life models are expensive, I often do photo session with them. Not to create artistic photos but to have reference for my paintings. I often use Flip, Retouch and "Thinify" - feature that elongates potraits to compensate for my lens distortion. (At least that what it is called in Corel PaintShop Pro X4 that I used to use on PC).

For now looks like I have everything I need.

I will take a look at Adobe Photoshop Element like you suggested. Although I am getting used to iPhoto way of organising albums.

Thanks

Photoshop Elements for Mac is an image editor that can be used from within iPhoto to edit photos.

Using Photoshop or Photoshop Elements as Your Editor of Choice in iPhoto.

1 - select Photoshop or Photoshop Elememts as your editor of choice in iPhoto's General Preference Section's under the "Edit photo:" menu.

User uploaded file

2 - double click on the thumbnail in iPhoto to open it in Photoshop. When you're finished editing click on the Save button. If you immediately get the JPEG Options window make your selection (Baseline standard seems to be the most compatible jpeg format) and click on the OK button. Your done.

3 - however, if you get the navigation window

User uploaded file

that indicates that PS wants to save it as a PS formatted file. You'll need to either select JPEG from the menu and save (top image) or click on the desktop in the Navigation window (bottom image) and save it to the desktop for importing as a new photo.

This method will let iPhoto know that the photo has been editied and will update the thumbnail file to reflect the edit..

With Photoshop Elements the Saving File preferences should be configured as shown:

User uploaded file

I also suggest the Maximize PSD File Compatabilty be set to Always. In PSE’s General preference pane set the Color Picker to Apple as shown:

User uploaded file

Screenshots are from PSE 10

Note 1: to switch between iPhoto and PS or PSE as the editor of choice Control (right)-click on the thumbnail and select either Edit in iPhoto or Edit in External Editor from the contextual menu. If you use iPhoto to edit more than PSE re-select iPhoto in the iPhoto General preference pane. Then iPhoto will be the default editor and you can use the contextual menu to select PSE for your editor when desired.

Note 2: editing a RAW file with either PSE or PS creates a new file which must be saved outside of iPhoto, i.e. the Desktop, and imported as a new photo into the iPhoto Library.

you write

I can save image directly to iPhoto

do you mean really "Save" instead of "Save as" ? Cause the problem with a "Save" is that you have altered your original, and will not be able to get it back ( unless it is still on the camera card and you can reimport it ).

The "revert to original" command only applies to edits you have done inside iphoto.

Why not use the External Editor feature in iPhoto and make things much more simple:

You can set Preview (or any image editor) as an external editor in iPhoto. (Preferences -> General -> Edit Photo: Choose from the Drop Down Menu.) This way, when you double click a pic to edit in iPhoto it will open automatically in Preview or your Image Editor, and when you save it it's sent back to iPhoto automatically. This is the only way that edits made in another application will be displayed in iPhoto.

hi terence

what i like about the "Save as"- on- "Desktop" method is the fact that when you reimport that picture ( drag-drop in iphoto ) , ( having added a letter at the end of the name , like IMG0123 to IMG0123P ), this "new" pic , when put back in the original EVENT ( by "Merge Events" ) will sit right along the "original" , as a "stand alone"pic, with its own "Finder Filename" and identity , without losing its Exifs.

One also has the benefit of keeping the simple and smooth-running features of iPhoto's own "Edit" platform.
