To do a ping test on a Mac computer:

Under the "Go" option, select "Utilities". In the utilities folder, select " Network Utility". In the network utility menu, you should see "Ping" and "Traceroute". We would like you to complete a ping and traceroute test for the following websites:

google.com, etc...

Record the results and forward them through as a reply to this email.

I cannot find "Network Utility under Utitlieis. Is it called something else?

Hi, seaseasea.

Sorry you're having trouble loading webpages on your Mac. Here's the best way to get a ping and traceroute on a Mac over to your ISP.

Go to Finder > Select Applications.

Select Utilities > Then Terminal.

After Terminal is open, you can then initiate a ping and traceroute test.

To do a ping test, type ping google.com. The results will start to display and you can just copy and paste to the ISP.

For a traceroute, open another Terminal session and type traceroute google.com. The trace will take a few moments to complete, and then you can copy and paste the results to your ISP.

Hope this helps you in troubleshooting your slow website loading issue. If you have any other questions, please post here.

exactly as you write, is what i thought i had to do.

so my memory is not that bad after all.

i did that but the ping test to google.com is still going after 30minutes.. so something is very wrong.

terminal window just keeps repeating and repeating

PING google.com (xxx): 56 data bytes

64 bytes from xxx icmp_seq=0 ttl=58 time=20.966 ms

64 bytes from xxx: icmp_seq=1 ttl=58 time=19.893 ms

64 bytes from xxx: icmp_seq=2 ttl=58 time=21.207 ms

thankyou for your help

perfect. that is what i was looking for and expecting from my rusty brain.

PING google.com (xx): 56 data bytes

64 bytes from xx icmp_seq=0 ttl=59 time=21.897 ms

64 bytes from xx: icmp_seq=1 ttl=59 time=20.441 ms

64 bytes from xx: icmp_seq=2 ttl=59 time=23.788 ms

64 bytes from xx: icmp_seq=3 ttl=59 time=20.320 ms

--- google.com ping statistics ---

4 packets transmitted, 4 packets received, 0.0% packet loss

round-trip min/avg/max/stddev = 20.320/21.611/23.788/1.401 ms

---------

ISP has given me about 15 sites to do this and save in a text file. is there an automated way to do this?

Q) as my slow page load speed problem is intermittment, so i could be doing this for a wee while

Q) i just noticed by IP address changed in that set of results.

do i open a new discussion for the related questions? what is the correct practice on the forum?

thankyou
