    That is a network issue, typically intermittent connection issues will be due to interference. You can get a network report by using istumbler or netstumbler

    I would like to second Hodag1948 and his issue. I have had zero problems with my connection previous to the upgrade today. My network is solid, no issues, and now randomly throughout watching a show the Apple TV (and only the apple TV) says that it's not connected to the network, and within moment reconnects. The only issue with that is I was watching a TV episode that was 22 minutes long, and it dropped out 15 times during the episode... this is unacceptable. I work in QA as a project lead on mobile titles for a large named game company. Apple will bring down the hammer of god if you have a small problem in an app you try to submit, yet this is able to make it to the public?

    6.1 is a jiggle efect for an ability we already had in the settings and an instability of connection?? As I'm writing this I just witnessed it drop connection again. This MUST be fixed.

    If it was an update issue many people would be effected. How have you verified that your network is solid?

    Because not only has my connection never had a problem until this update, I have other devices running through it across my house that aren't being affected in the same way. i live in a house with multiple computers and an IT Manager for a Fortune 500 company, and we've done every check on the modem, router and network itself... the Apple TV is the ONLY thing having this issue.

    I am also having this problem, but think I may have found a workaround.

     

    I was noticing extreme amounts of packet loss. I could not get through even a 10 minute YouTube video without it dropping out after 2-3 minutes. Streaming from iTunes was even worse, usually only lasting about 30 seconds. I pinged my Apple TV from my laptop and it was dropping the occasional packet (perhaps once every 50 pings), but every now and again it would completely drop off the network for about 30 seconds or so -- which caused whatever I was watching to stop and boot me back to the home screen. I played around with my WiFi settings (changing channels etc), and after about an hour of trying absolutely everything I could think of, I reconfigured my security settings to use WPA2 + AES instead of WPA2 + TKIP. As soon I enabled AES only, my Apple TV started working flawlessly. Coincidence? Who knows, but I then watched two ABC iView episodes via AirPlay and watched a 15 minute video podcast from my iTunes library all with absolutely no problems.

     

    My Apple TV was only purchased a few days ago, but had worked fine up until I installed the update yesterday. I'm now considering just biting the bullet and running an Ethernet cable to it.

     

    When I get home tonight, I'll no doubt want to watch some TV again so I'll report back if it seems to be solid again.

     

    tl;dr - Try disabling TKIP and only use AES. This worked for me, was working fine before the update.

    I'm having the exact same problem; Apple TV worked beautifully, I updated, disaster. Along with the wifi issues, various crashes and freezes. I'm now restoring to factory settings (which reinstalls the update) & then will try to solution above.

     

    (Obviously checking your network is a smart thing to do, but what is someone thinking when they continue "it must be your network! it must be!" Most of us who find our way to a discussion area here know how to check a network. My network is fine. My Apple TV was fine until 10 seconds before the upgrade.)

    Most users who post aren't that familiar with how to check for network issues, it is the first thing to check, and if one has specifically verified a solid network then those details need to be explicitly expressed.

     

    The poster above came to a solution by changing settings within the network.

    I should point out also here that I've had no problems with the network before OR after the update, the only issue I'm having is with the Apple TV.

     

    My home network usually consists of my personal MacBook, iPhone 5 and Kindle. My girlfriend's laptop and phone and my work MacBook are often connected also. None of these have had or are having problems. I know my way around network troubleshooting, so did the usual pinging and what have you. Nothing else was dropping packets aside from the Apple TV. I didn't have an ethernet cable long enough to test the Apple TV on the wired network, however,

     

    But nonetheless, changing from TKIP to AES seems to fix the problem in my case. I'm cautiously optimistic so will see how it goes tonight.

    I have same problem too. Evertyrhing in wifi netwrok is working right, except Apple TV 3. It loses connection every 3 minutes. I haven't got this issue before update.

    I am having the same problem and I am already using AES setting in my network. No probs before update, other devices working ok in my network.

    Are you using AES only or running AES+TKIP? If the latter, try setting AES only.

     

    I'm still not convinced my workaround has worked as last night I had one drop out whilst watching Netflix. Nonetheless, it's better than what it was. Perhaps it was just a fluke.

    Rechecked. WPA2 -PSK AES only.

    Switching to using AES only worked for me, then stopped about 2 days later. My ISP is Clubtelco, not sure if they're doing something wacky.

     

    Ashton - What make and model router are you using?

    Hi Ethan,

     

    I use a Vividwireless Home Gateway, latest revision and firmware AFAIK.

     

    Just as an update to this - I've noticed an increase in unreliability since I last posted here. Whilst it's certainly better than what it was, maybe one third of the time when I'm watching something on Netflix or from Beamer on my Macbook, I'll notice my Apple TV completely drop off the network. Certainly better than what it was initially though, more than tolerable but I honestly expect better than this when I could've gone out and bought an Android based device for less than half of the price of the Apple TV.
