Q: Can't send iMessages to friend who just got an iPhone

My girlfriend just got an iPhone, I used to text her using SMS text messages and was hoping that my iPhone would automatically start sending her iMessages when she activated her new iPhone. But when I text from my iPhone it still sends her SMS messages. How can I fix this short of deleting our message thread?

iPhone 5s, iOS 7.0.6

Are you able to send iMessages to other people who has an Apple product? If so, then she may need to activate the iMessages on her phone.

Settings---> Messages---> tick ON iMessages and sign in.
