iOS 7.1 Personal Hotspot APN settings won't save on iPhone 4

Hello,

I am facing a problem, which would be great to resolve. Since I updated to iOS 7.1 I can't set APN setttings for Personal Hotspot in my iPhone. If I go to Settings -> Cellular -> Cellular Data Settings, and I set the APNs(for data+mms) and i go back to save the freshly set APN settings then it saves, but if I touch any fields in the "Personal Hotspot" section (even focusing) and I go back the same way any changed value won't save (e.g. I also change data APN). In the menu "Cellular" there is an option for personal tethering where it just keeps loading and after a ehile it becomes an available option, but if I click on it it displays an error message like: "...contact: Carrier". So I tried everything, I reset my network settings, did 3 full restore(via iTunes, in recovery mode and DFU too). Then finally I downgraded to iOS 6.1.2 and guess what, it started working.. Then I thought it repaired some settings bug which burned in my device and I restored 7.1 in DFU. Now it is not working again. I need the help of community since I need hotspot tethering so hard everyday for my job. Thanks in advance!

Same here. Hotspot not working since I upgraded to 7.1. Such an annoying issue. I phoned my carrier this morning and they didn't want to get involved since "it's a device issue since settings can't be saved". No carrier updates either when I installed 7.1. So right now, no hotspot and no one wants to get involved.

Anyone has reached a solution?

Thanks!

Well still no resolution. :( There was a method which I also tried:

Did a backup with iTunes, I opened it with iBackupBot(backup extractor program) I modified a file named "preferences.plist", and I put my apn settings manually in it. and restored this modified backup. The only thing I could achieve that my apn setting appeared in hotspot too, but it was still not working and if I touched the personal hotspot apn field, happened the same.. It vanished the manually set value

One of my friend also confirmed this issue on his 5s(and ther friends' too) but their tethering is just working fine. This can happen because they OTA updated from 7.0.6 and their settings was not vanished while update. So my next question would be that did you OTA update without any wipe or not? my next step would be to restore 6.1.2 set apn settings correctly and OTA update my phone to 7.1 and then I can confirm that it can solve the problem. But for others who don't have the ability to do this there won't be a solution until 7.1.1 I think... :/ I will keep you posted about my experiences. :) :/

The same problem we have in Italy with the carrier (wind), I am writing in a forum and all the people who have updated their iphone4 to ios7.1, have the same problem. The apn is impossible to manually set.

The solution is what? The only one I found is to use my old nokia and abandon my iphone4 with the hope that apple proceed to fix the problem.....................

Unfortunately there is still no solution for this bug. I talked with apple again and they confirmed that the problem occurs to people whose carriers don't have a contract eith Apple, and their profiles are not pre-set in iOS. Because every carrier ,who have contract with Apple, have a bundle file ehich contains their settings like APNs, mms, voice message. And for us there is no bundle, and the system uses onr, named Unknown.bundle, which is used usually while roaming and for providers like ours. They also told me that they get calls more frequently in connection with this issue, so hopefully soon there will be some fix for our problem. :)

But it does not have to do much work, they just control to save data manually set authority hotspot.

If I decide to write the apn cellular network, mms and hotspots, are saved only cellular network and mms, while apn hotspot not save.

Has always worked out to perfection by up to ios4 ios7.0 without problems, so they could fix it.

Also because it only affects iphone4, while work on iphone5, etc.

News!

I restored 6.1.2 and set apns then I OTA updated to 7.1(update took 1 hour...). Now hotspot option is available, I can turn it on/off set password.. etc, wifi is visible on my laptop, BUT it can't connect to it. Stucks at getting IP address. Same on usb cable. APN settings still can nog br changed, but because I updated from 7.1 and did not wipe anything, settings remained in my device. Maybe it was my failure. Today I will try again maybe this time..
