Q: iOS 7.1 Personal Hotspot APN settings won't save on iPhone 4

Hello,

I am facing a problem, which would be great to resolve. Since I updated to iOS 7.1 I can't set APN setttings for Personal Hotspot in my iPhone. If I go to Settings -> Cellular -> Cellular Data Settings, and I set the APNs(for data+mms) and i go back to save the freshly set APN settings then it saves, but if I touch any fields in the "Personal Hotspot" section (even focusing) and I go back the same way any changed value won't save (e.g. I also change data APN). In the menu "Cellular" there is an option for personal tethering where it just keeps loading and after a ehile it becomes an available option, but if I click on it it displays an error message like: "...contact: Carrier". So I tried everything, I reset my network settings, did 3 full restore(via iTunes, in recovery mode and DFU too). Then finally I downgraded to iOS 6.1.2 and guess what, it started working.. Then I thought it repaired some settings bug which burned in my device and I restored 7.1 in DFU. Now it is not working again. I need the help of community since I need hotspot tethering so hard everyday for my job. Thanks in advance!

Why Apple lie us for this problem - the decision of problem is not only to change our smart phone with Android - we all pay a lot of money for ours iphones so we expect from them to work - is there any organisation which can help us - some government regulation?

As many users stated (myself included), both Apple and some carriers are well aware of the problem and are working for a solution. Sure, it's a nasty problem and the initial cautiousness (=silence) of Apple doesn't help at all, but at least now they say they are investigating it.

If you'd like to swith to Android, go for it. I can't tell you if their technical support is much better.

What investigation - they must allow phone users to manualy input apn settings - it is so sipmle! But they want every carrier to make a contract with them - this is real reason - everthing is for money.... Thats why they do not speak aboute this and waiting carriers to sign contract! It is not easy to be a bigger company in the world-there is a price and we all paid it....

I have an unregistered Carrier (E-Plus) and iPhone 4s: Although I cannot (visibly) store the details of my account, tethering works without any problems.

I got a new solution!!, it worked for me, just try.

I'm in Thailand. My cellular network is Truemove-H. I cannot share personal hotspot after updating iOS 7.1, After tried several methodes such as reset netowrk setting, remove simcard and insert back, and even restore the phone, it didn't work anyway. Until I tried switching simcard with another service provider, it worked just fine with personal hotspot. So, I assumed that the problem may come from the simcard that I used for 3 years. It probably does not support some features of new iOS. To prove my assumption, I made a request for new simcard from my service provider. I replaced it with the new one and I found that the personal hotspot was come back !!!

So, I would suggest that if your simcard seems to be an old age, let's try to replace it with the new one, your problem possibly resolved. Good luck !!!

I can't really imagine that this would solve  our issue. I tried to changed my SIM card with my gf's and it did not change anything. There was still no hotspot option for me.

I assume that most of us have their SIM Card since they have their iPhone, which means our Sims are 3 years old.

Couldn't it be that something has changed.

Maybe someone else can confirm that a new Sim of the same provider solves it....

    I did some quick test:

my SIM on my iPhone4: no hotspot

my SIM on my gf's iPhone 4s: no hotspot

my gf's SIM on my iPhone4: no hotspot

my gf's SIM on her iPhone4s: hotspot working!

That's some real strambe stuff to me..

    APPLE,

I bought the iphone with your documented feature of hotspot.

You can not remove the feature which i paid for.

The only company which after thousends of complains doesnt have an offical answer.

Same problem in Italy with WIND with Iphone 32gb I have an Iphone 4 and an Ipad only Wifi. I was going to change my Iphone with a new one, but after this problem, i'm thinking to Android. We can't pay for problems between Apple and Careers. I've alredy payed an expensive cost when I bought the Iphone.

I'll wait for official news from Apple. But not so much.

What I still don't get is why this is only happening with iPhone 4 (excluding iPads). What's the logic behind?

It works like a charm in my iPhone 5, but not in my girlfriend's iPhone 4, and we both have the same non-supported carrier (Pepehone Spain, SIMs less than 1 year old).
