Q: iOS 7.1 Personal Hotspot APN settings won't save on iPhone 4

Hello,

I am facing a problem, which would be great to resolve. Since I updated to iOS 7.1 I can't set APN setttings for Personal Hotspot in my iPhone. If I go to Settings -> Cellular -> Cellular Data Settings, and I set the APNs(for data+mms) and i go back to save the freshly set APN settings then it saves, but if I touch any fields in the "Personal Hotspot" section (even focusing) and I go back the same way any changed value won't save (e.g. I also change data APN). In the menu "Cellular" there is an option for personal tethering where it just keeps loading and after a ehile it becomes an available option, but if I click on it it displays an error message like: "...contact: Carrier". So I tried everything, I reset my network settings, did 3 full restore(via iTunes, in recovery mode and DFU too). Then finally I downgraded to iOS 6.1.2 and guess what, it started working.. Then I thought it repaired some settings bug which burned in my device and I restored 7.1 in DFU. Now it is not working again. I need the help of community since I need hotspot tethering so hard everyday for my job. Thanks in advance!

    What Apple wants from his customers?

    1) I've paid my iPhone 4S 900 euros;

    2) I'm used to buy music and apps from iTunes store;

    3) my iCloud space costs 32 euros per year

    and, like me, millions of customers around the world!

    and Apple does not allow me (and many others) to use the internet traffic for which I (we) pay my (our) provider, that's not among those that directly sell iPhone??? Is this your idea of a really unblocked device as you falsely declare from the pages of Apple online store ?!? Shame on you!

    If I had know that the 7.1 led to this I'd never updated my iPhone. No one (Apple and the sites that live because of her) told about this issue in their enthusiastic comments on the new, updated version, of iOS. Shame on you!

    This would claim a class action against such a behaviour!

    I'm disgusted

    thank you

    Where did you read this? Apple is so quite and customer support tell us that this is not a bug!

    could now feel the absence of Mr Jobs.

    Dear Apple team,

    This small issue may not be a threat to you, but i bet that not a single person who are suffering because of your update will neigther buy an iphone nor suggest an iphone to anybody. My operator started legal proceedings against your words "Unauthorized carriers" and your suggestion to port out to "authorized carriers". I know you will delete this post.

    It is all very simple.  Before IOS 7.1 everybody was happy and everything was working.  We all updated to IOS7.1 on different dates, the problem only occured after the update, therfore the carrier cannot be held responible only the software/firmware provider.

    If Apple have changed there policy, they should have made it clear before the update, that the personal hotspot may/will not work after this update.  I reply on this Hot Spot for my work, now I am loosing money.  Thank you Apple

    I was waiting for the iPhone 6 later this year, i am now thinking again!

    I've been discussing this problem with Apple Support (by phone) and they are investigating it. It is a problem with OMV (Virtual Carriers) and iphone 4. They told me that as soon as possible a new upgrade will be available.

    I hope so!

    Hi,

    I had the same problem with Base in Belgium and my iPhone 4 ios7.1 .

    Base has no contract with Apple and due to a very bad contact with the support team from base, I've decided to switch to Mobistar which has a contract with Apple.

    Conclusion : Personal Hotspot works again, no need to change my nearly 4 years old iPhone 4 ! :-):-):-)

    As stated a few posts ago, being this a user-to-user forum, it is probably better to provide a direct feedback to Apple (i.e. through Apple Support or http://www.apple.com/feedback/).

    By the way, I filled the feedback form yesterday but so far no reply from Apple.

    (I am on Iphone 4 + Wind Italy carrier: personal Hot Spot lost since I updated to iOS 7.1...)

    Unlocked Iphone 4,

    Bob Austria,

    Settings dissapear when insertet the Mobile config setings since 7.1. Hotspot prior worked well for me.

    Seems a LLL (loose) situation:

    Provider does not earn money, I wasted time while triing configuring the Hostpot, Apple support wasted time for triing to Help -> no help.

    I urgently recommend to fix this problem. First support on telephon was a liitle messie, second telephon support asked me to give feedback if I found a solution. (For what reason - to forbid it again?)

    I am dissapointed and lost time and Money,

    Cheers

    @afonteyn

    I did the same: iPhone4, ios7.1, Proximus. No personal hotspot anymore. Switched to Mobistar, and bam, it worked.

    btw, and fyi, Proximus and Base are not virtual carriers, but they have no "contract" with Apple.

    As long as it's silent on Apple's side for me  it's an evil feature, instead of a bug :-)
