Q: iOS 7.1 Personal Hotspot APN settings won't save on iPhone 4

Hello,

I am facing a problem, which would be great to resolve. Since I updated to iOS 7.1 I can't set APN setttings for Personal Hotspot in my iPhone. If I go to Settings -> Cellular -> Cellular Data Settings, and I set the APNs(for data+mms) and i go back to save the freshly set APN settings then it saves, but if I touch any fields in the "Personal Hotspot" section (even focusing) and I go back the same way any changed value won't save (e.g. I also change data APN). In the menu "Cellular" there is an option for personal tethering where it just keeps loading and after a ehile it becomes an available option, but if I click on it it displays an error message like: "...contact: Carrier". So I tried everything, I reset my network settings, did 3 full restore(via iTunes, in recovery mode and DFU too). Then finally I downgraded to iOS 6.1.2 and guess what, it started working.. Then I thought it repaired some settings bug which burned in my device and I restored 7.1 in DFU. Now it is not working again. I need the help of community since I need hotspot tethering so hard everyday for my job. Thanks in advance!

The problem clearly affects users where following 3 conditions concur:

    1. 1. Iphone 4 or 4s
    2. 2. iOS7.1
    3. 3. Virtual Carrier

Hi philgblau, it doesn't only affect virtual network operators. My carrier is the network owner, but they are no official Apple partner, which leads to the same problem.

iTunes is looking for a carrier information update, but since they are no partner, there is no information to be updated and the tethering information cannot be saved.

The way I get it all carriers, that are no Apple partners are affected – that probably includes all virtual carriers, though other networks like mine can be affected as well.

Although we are smaller in number, apparently, you should add the iPhone 5 people to the list of those with the problem.  I can't speak for the 5C and 5S owners, since I am not one.

As for Apple's attitude (should it happen to have one), the English expression "the elephant in the room" does come to mind.

    Hi,

my bugreport (16341129), which I submitted 3 weeks ago, was determined to be a duplicate of 16319244, yesterday.

So there might be some progress

As far as I know Iphone5 users have reported solving the issue with the http://www.unlockit.co.nz/ trick.

Actually my son has an Iphone5 IOS7.1 using the same virtual carrier as I do. He has no problem with the hotspot.

Whatever the reason is, it is completely unacceptable that adding up all our time we are wasting thousands of aggregated hours investigating, hanging around in forums or with support, just because someone hasn't done his job in Apple recognizing the issue and providing guidelines to their support teams. The first complaints date back to March 11th.

Yes, http://unlockit.co.nz doesn't work for iPhone 4/4s users. As far as I can judge it only worked with iPhone5.

    iPhone 5S

    Carrier: Austria BOB

APN Carrier Settings Profile via www.unlockit.co.nz  installed

In my case, the appropriate APN settings are not displayed, but obviously still saved in the background, because although the fields are empty in the settings of the Personal Hotspot with me, this still works!

In my iPhone 5 with Tuenti in Spain, www.unlockit.co.nz doesn't work.  I still have a Hotspot through a USB camble connection but I never lost that with the switch to 7,1 -- I only lost the WiFi Hotspot connection.  Oh, and I guess I lost confidence in Apple for not saying anything publicly about the problem and not doing anything about it in almost a month.

    Phone: iPhone 4

    iOS: 7.1

    Carrier: Austria/Telering (Belongs to T-Mobile)

    No Hotspot since 7.1 update

Discussing the problem with Telering since 2 weeks now without any result. As they have own iPhone 4 with Telering branding and they work, they assume it has something to do with base Setup of my iPhone as it is an unlocked DREI branded Phone.

I have reset und reinstalled it from recovery mode two times.

What I found is, that normally, when I recover my 5s after completion there is a message that appears on screen that says "you number is XXXXXXXX" and everything works great.

This happens on my old 3G, my mums 3GS, my 5S and the 5 of my girlfriend. Not any more on my 4 that has the problem which is currently used by my gradma.

Since Steve Jobs is gone, Apple really started to degrade constantly. Since Apple has given the carriers the possibility to mess around with the software all this stupid things happen. At DREI they removed the 3G Toggle on the unbranded iPhone of a friend. What the heck gives the carrier the right to mess with the software on an unbranded phone.

    APPLE!, SOLVE THAT!!!

    Which is impossible.

Only iPhone 4 can downgrade and also only if you have the shsh blobbs saved ...

Hello Apple. I never thought of writing in this kind of forums, I,m too old and timeless.

Just to say that you, APPLE, are in the wrong direction. You, APPLE, are affecting our work. You, APPLE, are trying to put doors to the forest (Spanish people will understand). You, APPLE, seem to be following an erratic course.

Was it your intention? Do we have to wait any hacker solution? Time to move to android?

    This way you are crashing.
