Q: iOS 7.1 Personal Hotspot APN settings won't save on iPhone 4

Hello,

I am facing a problem, which would be great to resolve. Since I updated to iOS 7.1 I can't set APN setttings for Personal Hotspot in my iPhone. If I go to Settings -> Cellular -> Cellular Data Settings, and I set the APNs(for data+mms) and i go back to save the freshly set APN settings then it saves, but if I touch any fields in the "Personal Hotspot" section (even focusing) and I go back the same way any changed value won't save (e.g. I also change data APN). In the menu "Cellular" there is an option for personal tethering where it just keeps loading and after a ehile it becomes an available option, but if I click on it it displays an error message like: "...contact: Carrier". So I tried everything, I reset my network settings, did 3 full restore(via iTunes, in recovery mode and DFU too). Then finally I downgraded to iOS 6.1.2 and guess what, it started working.. Then I thought it repaired some settings bug which burned in my device and I restored 7.1 in DFU. Now it is not working again. I need the help of community since I need hotspot tethering so hard everyday for my job. Thanks in advance!

    Apple,

I had to invest a lot of time calling my carrier, calling Apple, then finally I found out it is a hotspot bug existing since the update to IOS 7.1. Thanks Apple for that information in advance,...not.

For whatever reason this issue is now a topic, if it is a weird greedy reason, or a bug.

Apple fix this!!! Or my next phone is a phone who can do a personal hotspot, and no, I will not give up my carrier...

What were you thinking, at least honest communication in advance would have been helpful.

I am disgusted, what about people who need their hotspot for work?

    Solve that issue fast!!!

Restore the phone and set it up as a new phone, setup the APN settings first, after that install apps and things

Its a bug in iOS, thats why you cant save the APN Settings on your device.

You can do is, go to unlockit.co.nz on your safari browser. Then select your carrier and create a static APN of your carrier.

    Then tap on install,

After that you will find a icon on your home screen wid name (APN), delete the icon and

    Reboot the iPhone.

Am **** sure it will work !

    @ Pal Panesar :

Before patronising people, please read the thread.

You will then learn that you are NOT the first to suggest this idea, that is has already been suggested several times, and that it will NOT work.

Agreed, the only "**** sure" thing is, it probably is a bug, but Apple is clearly (and intentionally ?) taking its time to resolve it. In any case, they are not communicating on the issue in any way.

For my part, it was my first iPhone, and I am quite sure there won't be a second if I continue being duped in this way.

Just for info from Belgium :

    1) iPhone 4   iOS 7.1   carrier Proximus (NOT Apple partner) DON'T WORK

    2) iPhone 5   iOS 7.1   carrier Base (NOT Apple partner) WORK OK

    3) iPhone 5   iOS 7.1   carrier Mobistar (Apple partner) WORK OK

    4) iPhone 5C iOS 7.1   carrier Proximus (NOT Apple partner) WORK OK

In the non-Apple partner carrier cases above the APN is not shown as saved but it works fine with iPhone 5 and 5C...in the one Apple partner carrier case the APN is shown as saved and it works...

So personnally I don't think that the problem is related to the carrier but probably something between iOS and iPhone 4...Hope that Apple will react shortly as there are a lot of iPhone 4 in use...

    Same problem:

    Iphone 4

    carrier Simyo (Spain)

    IOS 7.1

Tethering working before update to 7.1

I would know if Apple is interested in solve this problem or I have to change my phone. I don't understand why Apple can forget their customers this way. Tethering is very important for me. If Apple ignores this problem, it would be my last Iphone.

Have 3 legit unlocked Iphones and a legit connections with mobile operators, am surprised that hotspot is off on all three. Am surely going to switch to Android, let apple serve the mobile operators...
