Q: iOS 7.1 Personal Hotspot APN settings won't save on iPhone 4

Hello,

I am facing a problem, which would be great to resolve. Since I updated to iOS 7.1 I can't set APN setttings for Personal Hotspot in my iPhone. If I go to Settings -> Cellular -> Cellular Data Settings, and I set the APNs(for data+mms) and i go back to save the freshly set APN settings then it saves, but if I touch any fields in the "Personal Hotspot" section (even focusing) and I go back the same way any changed value won't save (e.g. I also change data APN). In the menu "Cellular" there is an option for personal tethering where it just keeps loading and after a ehile it becomes an available option, but if I click on it it displays an error message like: "...contact: Carrier". So I tried everything, I reset my network settings, did 3 full restore(via iTunes, in recovery mode and DFU too). Then finally I downgraded to iOS 6.1.2 and guess what, it started working.. Then I thought it repaired some settings bug which burned in my device and I restored 7.1 in DFU. Now it is not working again. I need the help of community since I need hotspot tethering so hard everyday for my job. Thanks in advance!

    I have the same problem with my IPhone 4. I just switched from droid to apple last week. I bought a factory unlocked iPhone so I could go prepaid and no longer have a phone contract. I am using Red Pocket as my new carrier. All was well for the first 3 days...then I had the great idea of syncing my phone with my iTunes account. Well guess what...I got the IOS 7.1 update and aple turned my unlocked phone into a APN locked phone. I now can't send any MMS data. IOS 7.1 took away the option for me to enter in my APN information for my carrier. I don't use the hotspot feature, but I can understand everyone's pain.

    I just want to be able to access the settings for the phone I bought a week ago that are now blocked by aple. This is not how I wanted to start this experience with a new company.

    @Defraudo and others :

    This does NOT happen ONLY with virtual carriers. There are many of us (including me) who are clients of very physical carriers (that is who operate their own network). So please stop saying that the issue only impacts clients of virtual carriers. It is very much wider than that.

    In my case, I actually am with Mobilis, the only carrier in New Caledonia (state monopoly). This means I do not even have the alternative of finding someone with a SIM from another carrier to try and unlock the APN fields. This also means that if Apple decides not to correct their "bug", I will not have the option to switch carriers to use personal hotspot again, EVER. I will have to switch to Android because of Apple... Great going.

    This was my first iPhone, and I chose Apple because of its reputation to anticipate the need of its users, because of good customer service, etc. Well it looks like I was either wrong or late. If this is not fixed within a short timeframe, I will simply have to move on, and as mentionned, in my case, moving on cannot simply mean changing carrier.

    @belle-isle

    Do you have an iPhone 4 or 5?

    Somer iPhone 5 users with a non virtual carrier have reported solving the problem creating their APN profile with http://www.unlockit.co.nz/unlockit/

    And what about the issue of Non stop receiving email notifications having selected "NO" to all at preferences.

    This is a nightmare. I'll have to change my mail.

    Starting to hate Apple...

    @philgblau :

    I have an iPhone 4, have reported the issue pretty early on (March 13th, on the 5th page of this disussion), and have tried the http://www.unlockit.co.nz/unlockit/ solution without any success (March 17th, on the 12th page).

    Just waiting for some solution from Apple, since this killed my work productivity. And as I said, I don't have a choice of other carrier : there is no other carrier. The only choice is leaving Apple, which will happen if they do not get moving quickly.

    Select "manage email notifications" on your profile and delete the item you want.

    after a week on my brand new Nexus 5, and being able to do my work thanks to android, the only thing i can say is that no iphone user sould be afraid of switching to android. it can mimic everything from ios, and most of the time make a better user experience. don´t be fooled by the vanilla android the non advanced users have on their devices, it can be pushed way, WAY more forward.

    and if anyone has doubts THIS HAS BEEN INTENTIONAL, here is a slide apple showed on the last samsung vs apple trial that shows apple´s concern to satisfy carriers who have some kind of contract with them.

    what a shame...

    Apple have simply lost the plot!

    They have built themselves up so high (and so controlling) that they don't see what is happening at ground level any more with their once loyal and now increasingly disgruntled customers.

    Here is the big opportunity for Apple's competitors to catch Apple taking a nap and pull the carpet from under them.

    It would seem that some carriers are probably behind this, putting pressure on apple to stop tethering, becuase a lot of people who do not use the net so much, are cancelling their landlines and going mobile, tethering when they need a connection to the web with a computer. As already pointed out by others, this practice will also hit Android users and others too, so think twice about investing in new hardware.

    Apples lack of statements, lack of any action (other than deleting posts in this forum) can be understood as a waiting tactic.

    55,000 posts have been viewed, but only 500+- have put their complaint here in writing. For 500 people worldwide, apple will not backtrack and suddenly produce a patch to resolve this new feaure.

    As has been pointed out by other members, this is a user-to-user forum, apple provides the platform, but they sure as **** will not bow to the pressure generated here. However, their ticket statistics for the hotline are monitored and that is where we need to apply the pressure.

    EVERYONE, PLEASE CALL THE APPLE HOTLINE AND RAISE A TICKET, RAISE H-E-L-L IF YOU HAVE TO - BUT MAKE YOURSELF HEARD!

    Let's see how long it takes for apple to delete this post. My last was removed after 33 minutes.........

    Hey everyone, can you hear it?

    I think it's Steve J. spinning in his grave.

    Call Support and Raise a Ticket - apple will not respond to pressure in this forum.

    Hey - if you won't raise a ticket for yourself, then at least do it for the rest of us!

    Quite agree with Not-Happy.

    Have raised a ticket and stirred the whole thing myself.

    Others, please do go ahead as well !

    This seems to be a good approach, I will join in and do the same.
