New RMBP can,t see old MBP 2010 I am using migration assistant Both are on the same network I tried USB to USB cable with no result

After battling for 5 days to migrate over a good WiFi It was solved by backing up to a new HD then migrating from the back up HD. 90% quicker and all info arrived.
This was the only way... Not happy to HAVE to purchache a cable $30 and an adapter $30 but it is either this or using a "wired" Back up HD I had many failed attemps using WiFi.
FWIW, wifi is the worst of all options, since it's notoriously slow and problematic.
