Q: iPad cannot be synced (error -50)

I just updated to iOS7.1 & after that I decided to sort out my photo syncing. (previously only iCloud last 1000 pics were synced)

I selected "sync albums from last 12 months (no events)"

Now I cant sync at all with the error saying iPad cannot be synced (error -50)

I quit all apps & restarted, same error pops up after restart.

What to do??

iMac, OS X Mavericks (10.9)

I am not sure if that is the same thing, the linked article says

iTunes Store: "Error (-50)" when downloading purchased content

The description of what to do doesnt seem to apply to me as I dont have anything purchaced from itunes to delete from my cache, the downloads folder is empty.

I am not using the iTunes store, I am trying to sync photos to my iPad - nothing to do with music. My music syncs fine.

The error appears while syncing photos - iTunes says "Syncing Photos, step 4 of 5" & then the error pops up.

I follwed the instructions in this article http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3697

    iTunes: Unable to sync photos

but the problem persists, I cannot sync any photos whatsoever from iTunes, but music, apps etc are all fine.

This is very frustrating because the purpose of this iPad is to use as an on-the-go screen for photography

You might try restore iOS again. Maybe there was a glitch the first time around.

    oh this is just superb!

I restored the iPad, connect to iTunes, iPad cannot be synced (error -50)

& now I have a blank iPad that I cant sync with anything.

    What is going on here?

oh- - wait  - it IS syncing, but only if I dont sync photos, so back to the same as before. If it tick to sync any photos, i get the error. If I untick the photos it begins syncing fine.

iPhoto on my ipad is now full of missing images. The cloud stream has 1000 blank images, the camera roll has 635 blank images. I have synced with the cloud, but it's all blank. I can't sync from the computer because the error pops up.

    For those that follow~

After speaking to Apple Support for about 2 hours, the issue has been narrowed down to a corruption problem in the computers iPhoto Library.

    To confirm this:

Problem: When ticking "sync photos" in iTunes, your sync fails with the error "cannot be synced, unknown error -50".

Test: HOLD alt/option (mac) & open iPhoto. You will be prompted to create a new Library. (the old one will be left untouched)

Import a few photos to your new library.

Quit iTUNES & re-open it. Connect your device & go to the photo tab. Click Sync Photos, you will see your new library. Sync - it should now work.

In iPhoto you can switch between your old & new Library using the FILE >Switch Library option.

This is not a fix, my issue is ongoing. I am posting only to help future readers. In my case rebuilding the iPhoto Library (hold option/alt when opening iPhoto) was not able to correct the problem.
